CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Jewelry Care

Fine jewelry requires care for maintenance and longevity.  In general, we recommend that you remove your jewelry for household tasks, gardening, swimming, bathing, and exercising. Do not expose your jewelry to cleansers or chemicals, which may cause damage or discoloration.  Store each piece of jewelry in it’s own box or pouch, or in a lined jewelry box, to prevent scratching.

Polish with a microfiber cloth (included with your order) to remove oils, dirt and fingerprints. Regular gentle cleaning with a soft toothbrush and mild soapy water, or a diluted ammonia solution is recommended, especially underneath stones or in areas that may not be easily reached with a polishing cloth.

We recommend bringing frequently worn pieces, especially rings with large center stones, to a jeweler on a yearly basis for professional care and cleaning.  We provide this service to our clients free of charge. If you take your jewelry elsewhere and repairs are required, please contact us prior to having work done to determine if that work is covered by, or impacts, our warranty.

Mineral and Wood Jewelry Considerations

Each piece we make featuring minerals is one-of-a-kind in appearance due to the natural variation in the materials.  When ordering an item made with stone, wood or other non-metal components, please expect that the natural patterning may be different than the item pictured on our website. We select sections of material to maximize the unique beauty of each item we make.

Cauldrons are fragile, and may break with a strong impact. Should they break from impact there’s little that can be done to repair the stone. While being worn there is minimal risk of this, but use special care not to drop on a hard surface, and to store safely.

Our Cloak rings are designed as statement rings. If worn for daily tasks they may be damaged or show signs of wear.  The mineral component is sturdy, however it may easily pick up chips or nicks upon impact against hard surfaces.

Some of the minerals we use are especially soft or have natural veining which requires stabilization. In these cases we treat the materials with either a bio-resin or cyanoacrylate sealant. We also treat wood and other softer materials, such as bone and fossils.

Wood, stone and other insert style rings cannot be sized. Read more about ring sizing here.

For wood on the inside of a ring no special maintenance is required, as the natural oils from the skin will keep the wood preserved.  For wood on the outside of jewelry adding a drop of oil over the surface can help create a preservative effect. Avoid prolonged submersion in water, which may cause problems with the wood. Wood has a natural tendency to darken over time.

Warranty

WARRANTY

Our warranty policy covers all jewelry purchased from Mercurius Jewelry. We will repair or replace any defects in material or workmanship that do not result from neglect, abuse, or normal wear and tear.

Warranty Exceptions and Exclusions:

1. Damage to jewelry caused by neglect, abuse, or normal wear and tear. For example, if a ring wears thin due to natural wear over time, shank replacement is not covered by the warranty. Neglect includes failing to follow recommended care guidelines and standard ongoing maintenance. Heavy wear, such as impacts, are detectable under magnification and related damages are not covered.

2. Any jewelry that has been repaired by another jeweler. Please come to us first about any necessary repairs or resizing. We cannot be held responsible for merchandise that has been worked on by another jeweler, and this warranty will be void if the jewelry was worked on elsewhere. Exceptions include professional cleaning which will not void this warranty.

3. Loss or damage to stones due to neglect, abuse, or wear and tear. This includes diamonds. Diamonds, just like all stones, may be subject to breaking or chipping with impacts.  All other stones that are lower on the hardness scale are subject to damage from regular wear. We are happy to help you replace, repair or repolish stones, however there will be an associated fee. We recommend having high value jewelry appraised and fully insured to cover loss and damage.

Please contact us if jewelry needs to be returned due to defects in workmanship or materials.  Once received, we will examine and determine if the above criteria is met.  We reserve the right to reject any returns that do not comply with the conditions stated above. Once approved, we will contact you to let you know the timeline for replacement, which will be done at no charge.
